Reign of Winter
A wooden roof extends over this wide porch on the southwestern side of the lodge, shielding it from the worst of the snow that has fallen around the building. Heavy double doors provide access to the lodge itself, with large brass rings held in the mouths of bears to open them.
Two small glass windows are set in the walls on either side of the doors, each one depicting a woodland scene; on the right there are elk amid the pines and on the left there is a bear on a rocky outcropping.
Leading up to the porch are sturdy wooden stairs, and the porch itself stands three feet above the snow covered ground.
Light is steaming outside through the window on the left and you know it would be prudent not to tarry, lest you draw the attention of unwanted eyes.
